Requiem for a Dream...

I watched Requiem for a Dream today directed by Darren Aronofsky, to obtain a broader outlook on how people, objects and locations can be filmed. The film shows the 'hopes and dreams of 4 ambitious people, which shatter when their drug addictions spiral out of control'

Heres a few notes I took on camera angles and dramatic effect:

  • Shot in two screens
  • Creepy music chosen for effect
  • Fast cuts between frames
  • low angles
  • Point of view shots (Shows what character is looking at)
  • Extreme high and low angles
  • Fish eye lense
  • Birds eye view
  • No vocals (is speaking but you cant hear)
  • Makes you think you shouldn't be looking (Shot through keyhole)
  • Horizontal split screen
  • Distorted movement
  • Spinning screen

The film has helped me understand different filming methods which I think I will take further with me during this project. The next films Im going to look at are, Eagle Vs Shark, The Royal Tennanbaums and Motzart and the Whale.
